How I Describe My Work
For me, photography is about honesty and presence. I prefer working with available light whenever possible β I find that natural light carries a kind of truth and atmosphere that artificial setups often lack. Instead of relying on props or heavy retouching, I focus on mastering my tools β both analogue and digital β to capture what feels real and emotionally resonant.
Lately, Iβve been exploring analogue processes like wet plate collodion and pinhole photography, as well as extending my visual language through painting and collage. These techniques allow me to slow down, to observe more deeply, and to create images that feel timeless and handcrafted.
At the core of all my work lies a deep connection to beauty, passion, and patience. Every image must tell a story β because for me, narrative is what gives photography its emotional depth. Form, technique, emotion, and personal style must all come together to create something meaningful.
Whether Iβm working digitally, on glass, or across media, I approach each piece as a search for emotional truth and visual precision β a process driven by both intuition and care.
Who Are My Biggest Influences
My inspiration comes from many places β and many times. In painting, Iβve always been drawn to the depth and atmosphere of Rembrandt, the delicate light of Vermeer, the emotion of van Gogh, and the boldness of Frida Kahlo. I also find endless fascination in the work of Leonardo da Vinci, both as an artist and thinker.
In photography, I admire the emotional clarity of Richard Avedon, the poetic realism of Robert Doisneau, the raw humanity of Diane Arbus, and the dreamlike elegance of Paolo Roversi, Sarah Moon, and Peter Lindbergh. Iβm also inspired by the visual drama of Helmut Newton and the surreal worlds of David LaChapelle.
Outside of photography, my imagination is shaped by artists like HR Giger, the visionary designs of Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and the iconic presence of Karl Lagerfeld.
And when it comes to philosophy and mindset, the writings of Miyamoto Musashi β especially his discipline and clarity of purpose β have had a lasting influence on how I work and live.
My Creative Process
My process is layered and often quite complex. Almost everything begins with a photograph I take myself. When I work purely in photography, I avoid digital retouching as much as possible β instead, I try to master the moment using available light, composition, and timing.
But when I work conceptually or in mixed media, the photograph becomes just the beginning. I blend analogue and digital techniques, often printing on canvas, then adding detail with oil or acrylic paint, and finally rescan the work to continue refining it digitally.
Itβs a slow and intricate process β one that allows me to craft something entirely unique. But no matter what the medium, I always start with a story. Sometimes itβs inspired by an ancient Japanese legend, sometimes itβs a piece of fiction that lives only in my mind. That inner narrative gives structure and soul to the visual work that follows.
